HIV/AIDS Orphans More Than 6,000 Children Per Day. How Can Broomfield, CO Help? Print E-mail

BROOMFIELD, CO, December 1, 2007 – December 1, 2007 is World AIDS Day; a day to educate, reflect and ultimately ask the question, “What can I do?” to help the more than 40 million people worldwide infected with HIV. Tom Yeager has answered the question by deciding to donate $5 of every inspection performed by his/her Inspect-It 1st of North Denver Metro business in the month of December to Sizanani Home Based Care, a non-profit program in Soweto, South Africa that assists children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

“Millions of children worldwide are becoming orphaned by the HIV/AIDS crisis and this is an epidemic in and of itself,” says Tom. “It’s easy to feel small and helpless when faced with such a large-scale issue, but we can each do our little part.”

Sizanani provides support and human services to orphans and vulnerable children, thereby enabling them to remain in their community with neighbors or extended family. Caregivers from Sizanani provide home care and act as advocates for these children and their family members to acquire state grants and food security. With the need for service increasing daily, Sizanani's staff of 64 caregivers currently service well over 400 orphans and vulnerable children.

“Our franchise Home Office is collecting the donations generated by all the Inspect-It 1st offices nationwide, and through our MMI Charities affiliation, sending the money to Sizanani to use for necessities such as food, clothing and toiletries,” stated Tom. MMI Charities is a non-profit organization focused on supporting local, national, and international programs that are designed to provide health and human services to children in need. It is a subsidiary of Merrymeeting, Inc. (MMI), a franchise investment firm and Inspect-It 1st’s parent company.

“My personal visit to Sizanani this past September was truly an eye-opening experience that exposed me to the plight of these children who are equally a casualty of HIV/AIDS,” stated Emily Paulsen, Assistant Coordinator for MMI Charities at Inspect-It 1st’s Home Office. “We had taken just some small toiletry items to donate on our visit and the children and staff were so grateful; we can accomplish a lot with the $5 from each of Tom’s inspections.”
