Local MTOclean Wraps Up Can Drive to Support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia Print E-mail

CHESAPEAKE, VA, January 11, 2008 – MTOclean of Chesapeake, local residential and commercial cleaning service, marks the completion of their 2007 Holiday food drive to support the Foodbank Southeastern Virginia of (FSEVA). MTOclean of Chesapeake asked all its customers to donate a canned good for collection during a scheduled cleaning anytime from mid-November, 2007 through the end of the year. Juanita Winter, Franchise Manager of MTOclean of Chesapeake and a few staff members, delivered the 135 lbs. worth of food collected from nearly a third of their residential and commercial customers to the Food Pantry this past week.

“The generosity of participating MTOclean customers, staff and our local community was overwhelming and I am truly grateful for their participation,” stated Winter. “The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia does a lot to support the needy of this community, and we can all take pride in these efforts to contribute.”

The mission of the FSEVA is to harness and supply high quality food and non-food essentials to non-profit agencies that serve the hungry. The Foodbank is a warehouse where recovered and contributed food is collected, sorted and distributed to over 500 agencies including church pantries and area Kids Cafes® who then disburse or prepare and serve the food to those in need. Over the 2006-07 fiscal year the Foodbank assisted an additional 21,700 working adults, nearly 12,000 more children, and 15,990 senior citizens who had not been served previously. The Foodbank is now providing for more than 200,000 hungry individuals in our area, a 30% increase in just one year.

“We would like to say ‘Thank You’ to all MTOclean customers and the local Chesapeake community for their contributions,” stated Marianne Smith, Chief Development Officer with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. “Not only has MTOclean of Chesapeake provided this generous donation, they are also helping us raise awareness of the needs of this community and the work of the Foodbank. That effort is hard to put a price on.”
